FCP Overview Part One


Modifier Keys:
Command  Program controls
+ TAB to cycle through open programs
+ Q to quit
+ H to hide programs
+  + to zoom in
+ - to zoom out
+ F to find
Control – right click
            + U to reset workspace
Option – choices, other options, or the opposite

Shift – movement options
            + Z to auto-zoom Timeline to fit workspace
FCP Overview
Save Options:  Save as > your home account > lesson # and your name

4 main Windows: Browser, Viewer, Canvas, Sequence
Browser
o   Importing options
o   Viewing options – list, icon
o   Folders – moving folders and files into folders
o   Icon definitions
Viewer
o   Loading clips options
o   Play options
o   Icon definitions – start/end of media; start/end of edited clip; end of sequence;
o   Timeframes
o   Scrubbing with Playhead
o   Button Bar
Canvas
o   View Timeline
o   Drag to place clip
§  Right arrow for insert edit
§  Down arrow for overwrite edit
o   Place options – Insert, Overwrite, Replace, Fit to Fill, Superimpose
o   Focus on Insert vs Overwrite
      Sequence
      New Sequence: Command + N, right click in Browser, File > New > Sequence

      Clip Basics:
o   Placing clips –Drag and Drop or Canvas
o   Copy (Command C)
o   Delete (Command X)
o   Ripple Delete
o   Paste (Command V)
o   Moving clips – Drag, Numeric

Resize Timeline (Shift T)

Show Waveforms (Option W on: Command + Option + W off)

Sound Options

Add/Delete Tracks – Sequence > Insert Tracks

§  Shift \ loops the in to out point selection

Three-Point Editing
Three point editing needs three points to edit:  an In Point, and Out Point, and one other Point either In or Out.  Back-timing an edit is using two out points.

Copyright On-Line Comic


Click on the comic to go to the on-line version of Duke University's  Bound by Lay? comic that explains the complexities of copyright laws. Read through the comic, then answer the following questions in a response post:


1.  What does copyright cover?


2.  What does "clearing rights" mean?


3.  Define "Fair Use"


4. Describe one situation of copyright violation that was covered that you though was ridiculous.  


5.  Who do you think is to blame for the complexity of copyright laws?


6.  If you could change one aspect of copyright laws covered in the comic, what would it be?  Why would you change it?  What would be the implications of that change? 


7.  In the end, why do you think copyrigh laws exist?  Are they of value? 


8.  What do you think would happen if there were no copyright laws?
